They were from China... and I do my best to try to find items made in the US but I was not able to. Mine are 3mm, I think. I also have the 5mm which works nicely for larger items. I have not had any problems with mine and they work well on the many layers of my labels. But when the label is sewn down through all layers, the paper might hold up just fine. I have not personally tested it, and would advise anyone wanting a completely washable label to do their own test.
