Luuucccyyyyy! I'm Home!

I am over the moon and inside out!

Meet “Lucy”, my newly acquired 78 year old Singer Featherweight, born Nov. 5, 1935. She’s looking exceptionally snappy for her age, isn’t she? She just had a total face-lift where she got her stylin’ red paint job. She is my new traveling machine and I can't wait to take her to classes and workshops.  She and I are going to have tons of fun together!

  2. She's dreamy, isn't she? And she sews very nicely. It's all well and good to be pretty, but Lucy needs to be a workhorse, as well.

  4. Oh my GOSH! A friend sent me to your blog because...1. She thought it was MINE and I hadn't told her about it! haha 2. You could be my doppelganger and/or clone 3. and she knew I would LOVE it! Your blog, projects and especially this sewing machine are right up my alley!!! I've just started blogging as well. I've had some blogs and just couldn't get into it, but now I think I have some of the tweaks worked out and can start posting pix and tutorials, etc. I just wanted to say 'hi' and hope we can be 'neighbors'...Maybe I can inherit that sewing machine if I make-nice :) Keep up the good work and I LOVE IT!

  5. Hey, Karen,

So happy that you are enjoying my blather. An old friend once told me that I write like I talk. I wondered at the time, who doesn't?

I tried to view your blog but could only see your Google page. If you follow me here, I'll see if I can follow you. I'd love to see your blog. Thanks for posting here.

  6. Ran across your blog.... I have no idea how.....but cracked up when I read your post on this Red Beauty. My girlfriend and I name our machines also. I even named my Kitchen Aid Mixer. Pearl, yep she's white and I love her. My friend and I decided we were sisters separated at birth we are so much alike, forget the fact that we are 6 years apart. It has come to our attention. while reading your blog, that we may have been triplets, you being the missing link. We love auctions and I just picked up a Vintage Pink White sewing machine in mint condition. FOR $5.00. Yes, you read it right sister. Five frog skins. The auctioneer couldn't believe I was the only one who bid on her... He just glared at me and said, "Merry Christmas" I named her Penny. I can't wait to take her for a stroll. I even got my daughter a Kitchen Aid mixer at an auction for 5 bucks too! Perfect shape. Unbelievable what we find! great blog!

  7. Oops...I'm new to this blogging thing as well! I guess you can tell that! Google keeps sending people to the google profile instead of my home page, but, here's my blog:

I'm still working on new posts along with finishing the book, so I'm a little slow with keeping up :)

  8. Karen, I finally had a moment to check out your blog and wanted to send you my best wishes for the success of your new venture. I know that there must certainly be a market for information on the how-to of hand quilting since a number of my quilters guild members think of hand quilting as being one of the great mysteries of life! Best of luck to you.

Would love to see some photos on your blog!

  9. Dear Mabel,

Your post certainly gave me a good laugh. I am going to remember your phrase regarding "frog skins", which must certainly be a very special currency! I was touched that you thought that I could be the third party triplet.

Good auctions here in the 'Burg are few and far between so Mr. T. and I think of them as a seriously HOT DATE when one is scheduled locally. He calls me his really cheap date since I don't even always care if I bid on something. It's all about the fun, the atmosphere and of course... the people-watching.

You will appreciate that I purchased a vintage green Riccar sewing machine yesterday. Haven't named her yet, but she sews wonderfully. The best part is that I paid an astounding $7.35 FROG SKINS for her. Score!

I checked out your blog and found it to be as charming as I expected. Loved actually seeing Penny. What a peach!... a pink peach! And your little Hunter is a fella after my own heart. There is something very special about a little boy who loves and appreciates Art. It will be interesting to see how that plays out as he grows.

I just became a follower of your blog. Looking forward to what you will find next.

  11. Love the snazzy red machine, better than a red Mustang! :) I never thought about having one painted, who did it? Awesome. What a travel buddy. Debbie Perkins Chatom, Alabama

  12. Hey, Debbie, Hmmm... You're right, my Lucy just might trump a red Mustang... but don't put her up against that Guard Red Porsche convertible that Mr. T and I see driving around the 'Burg!
